First time eating Somalian food and if this place is representative of it I can't believe I've gone this long before having it! Incredible layers of flavors in the food. Between two of us their for a work dinner we had a couple of the Somalian Teas with the meal each (similar to Chai with a nice hint of cardamom), Hummus with Pita and Beef Sambuza as apps, I had the Chicken Mango Curry (not spicy but well spiced) and my co-worker has the Chicken Ke-Kay(also not spicy but very well spiced) and had leftovers to take home for a wonderful lunch (or late night snack). Will be returning on all subsequent business trips to the area!

Great Somali food at a good price. Will definitely be back. The waiter was friendly and explained everything well. We got tea to go and it was amazing. I just wish the hot sauce was spicy. Food:9/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10

So incredible to take part in Iftar, the breaking of the Ramadan fast at sunset at Safari. They host a huge buffet every evening during Ramadan for the local community in their event space. This was the last day of Ramadan, so we filled out plates and waited until 8:55 (until our neighbors signaled we could dig in). We met the owner Abdi who was incredibly hospitable and so generous in sharing his culture with us. The food was so bountiful. Easily 20-30 dishes. I can't wait to come back to Safari to learn more about what I ate tonight.

We loved it....a nice bland of horn of Africa meets Minnesota! The rice is amazing....the potatoes in sauce equally delicious. The service is outstanding. Rustic raw and ethnic... We will be back!

The food is so damn lit! We are a couple of Asian folks. We walked in and felt out of place. Seems to be that a lot of Africans come here to dine. That's when we knew this place is gonna be legit. Sharmarke (the host/waiter/cashier/name meaning "see no evil"/dude who's gonna serve you the best meal you've had in a while) took real good care of us because we were obviously out of place and took the time to explain what is what on the menu. Get vegetarian sambusa. Perfectly fried and served with a mix of vegetable and slices of lime. Yum! Chicken mango curry is top notch, too!

We came here on a Saturday night at 9pm. Though it was at not a typical dinner hour the place was busy. It was our first try at a Somali restaurant and wow- yum! Our waiter first dropped off a plate of banana and hot sauce. Of course we had to ask our friendly neighboring booth back seat co share eaters how to properly enjoy the bananas. After some laughs we leaned that it's typically eaten with rice. We ordered the key Kay, a goat curry dish and another goat dish. All delicious. We enjoyed the mango juice that was complimentary. Prices are right, portion is large, quality and presentation is above expectations. Service is ok but hey, a little understanding goes a long way.

On my advanture to try as much new food as possible during this year, I stumbled upon Safari. I live right down the road, and decided to meet a friend there for lunch. This maybe wouldn't be the best place to go alone or a on a first date, since service was on the slow side. Thankfully, our conversation filled the spaces between ordering and receiving food. Parking was not at all an issue, and this place is right on the 11 bus line, so that is always an option as well! On to the food. We both ordered their Somali tea and some sambusas to start. I fell in love with the tea instantly! I restrict my sugar intake, so I only had one glass, but my friend enjoyed his and asked for a second. Served nice and hot, it reminded us both of a creamy chai, but I definitely prefered this over what I usually get when out for Indian. Make sure to get it with milk for the perfect, creamy drink. I could have ordered this for dessert and been happy! The sambusas came to us with little side salads that had a light, tasty, acidic dressing already on them. Nice touch. The little fried pillows of delight were crisp without being grasy and are now among my favorite appetizers in the whole Twin Cities! Of course, they were paired with the green hot sauce that I love so much! A good, steady building heat full of flavor rather than one that just punches you full on. Irresistable! On to our mains. My friend ordered the chicken fantastic, since it was highlighted on the menu and I mentioned having enjoyed the dish from other places in the past. It lived up to the name! Delicious, garlicky, flavorful sauce over chicken and rice. Very good. I decided to branch out and try to goat curry. I have never been so happy to be outside my comfort zone in my life! I don't even have the words to explain how delicious it was. Large chunks of goat cooked in a well-spiced sauce with a couple slices of onion and maybe pepper? There were raisens and slices of bell pepper on top of the rice, which happily came on the side so I could enjoy my meat more easily! The banana was perfect to cool my tongue when I was happily eating away. There are bones in this dish, but easily picked out for anyone willing to work for something so delicious. We both had enough to take home for another meal, and paid under 20 bucks each for great food. Service could have been better, but honestly, bring someone you can chat with for an hour and you will have no problems. I hardly even cared, especially seeing how good the food was. Be respectful, know they are putting effort into their work, and pay attention to how good the food is or order to-go (or from Bitesquad or DoorDash, as both will deliver food from here) if you know you will get impatient.
